“These pieces are made with 100 percent raw silk, wool, hemp,
and organic cotton,” says Alex Shuford III, VP of Upholstery for
Century. “We’ve chosen the most natural, touchable, beautiful
fabrics we could find. Even the hidden materials are organic and
sustainable. Natural redefines comfort,
for the body as well as the soul.”
To craft this upholstery, Century
artisans work with soy-based eco-friendly
foam, natural cushioning
fibers, natural goose down
feathers, sustainable hardwood
frames—even 50 percent
recycled metal springs that are
made in the USA. All pieces, of
course, are handcrafted using
time-honored furniture
making techniques.
Yet, for all its focus on
sustainability with its
new collection, Century hasn’t lost its touch for upscale design and
fine quality.
“While we all know instinctively that green is serene, we don’t
want to embrace it at the expense of design sophistication,” notes
Shuford. “Natural lets our customers enhance their homes with
Earth-friendly, organic upholstery without sacrificing style. It’s the
perfect balance of sustainable elements and timeless design.
“Natural appeals to discerning consumers who appreciate fine design, uncompromising comfort, and
calm, balanced living,” he adds. “The fact that it’s ‘green’ could almost be seen as a bonus. This upholstery
proves it is possible to have it all: high style, high quality, and a high regard for the environment.”
