Timeless Style, Classic Beauty and Intimate Design can be found in Century
Furniture’s newest collection - Wellington Court

High Point Furniture Market (October 2009)
-- Century Furniture's newest collection, Wellington Court, harks back to a time of prosperity and luxury in the late 18th and early 19th centuries when palace décor set the styles. At the same time, royal excesses of the past had become insupportable and were being surrendered in favor of simpler, more classic designs. Napoleon of France went so far as to issue an edict requiring French adherence to Greek and Roman principles of design and
King George IV of England embraced this "purer" standard for his court as well.

Wellington Court owes its character to the Neoclassic and Regency styles (especially English) of that era. Functionality was a hallmark of those designs. Classic, sometimes bold silhouettes were often combined with subtle but intricate details. Furniture was scaled to more intimate size. Black, white, and ivory were extensively used.
Century's Wellington Court embodies refinements of the Georgian era with its styles that bespeak old wealth and high station without need for ostentation.

The curves of Wellington Court are shapely and understated. Surfaces are clean but enhanced with touches that emphasize their purity of line. Every piece is a statement of refinement -- refreshing now, as then, in a time when the lowest common denominator often prevails.

With typical English restraint, Wellington Court doesn't reveal every nuance upon first encounter. Its subtle refinements are perceived by degrees. Ebonized borders, shading, and double-toned geometric inlays elicit a second look. No trendy designs of
passing interest, this clearly is furniture to love for all time.

The Wellington Court Collection is distinguished by its generous employment of rarely used woods and superb design execution. Favored woods are French Walnut, beautifully grained American Walnut solids and burls, African mahoganies, and Eucalyptus solids -- all endlessly intriguing with their differing characters and
meticulous juxtapositions.

Metalwork is demure, antiqued brass, born of a lostwax process. Only the lion's head pulls on a bedside chest and a sideboard openly proclaim a royal connection.

With their clean, sedate lines, Wellington Court chairs convey a subtle grandeur
and presence. Their shapely arms and backs are in quiet counterpoint to the
straighter lines of the Wellington Court tables.

The classic beauty of this timeless collection is certain to wear well.
